Secretary General of Algeria MoFA meets Japan's Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs

On 25 December 2025, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Lounes Magramane, held a working meeting with Mr. Yohei Onishi, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, on the occasion of his official visit to Algeria.

This bilateral meeting was an opportunity to highlight the quality of the historic friendship and cooperation between Algeria and Japan, the recent momentum generated by high-level visits from both sides, and the convergence of the two countries' views on many regional and international issues of common interest.

The Secretary General also congratulated the Japanese official on his country's resounding success in organising Expo 2025 in Osaka, where Algeria shone through its active participation and was awarded the silver medal for the best pavilion façade among the countries participating in this global event.

The two sides praised the positive current situation, which should stimulate a new dynamic in bilateral relations, particularly political and economic relations, and to work together to ensure the regular and periodic nature of bilateral consultations in light of the joint commitments made during the successful first session of the Algeria-Japan Intergovernmental Economic Committee in Algiers last May. Accordingly, the two parties agreed that the sixth session of political consultations would be held and scheduled to coincide with the second meeting of the Algeria-Japan Intergovernmental Economic Commission in Tokyo during the first half of 2026.

Following this working session, the Japanese Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs met with the Minister of State, Minister for Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Mr. Ahmed Attaf, followed by a meeting with the Minister of Knowledge Economy, Start-ups and Micro-Enterprises, Mr. Noureddine Ouadah, reflecting the determination of Algeria and Japan to diversify their exchanges and raise them to the desired level, particularly in the fields of digital technologies and artificial intelligence.
